The Key
welcome to today's encouragement from our daily bread our reading titled the key was written by Monica Larose
in his classic book The Human Condition Thomas Keating shares this memorable tale a teacher having lost the key to his home is on his hands and knees searching through the grass when is disciples see him searching they join the hunt but with no success finally one of the more intelligent disciples asked Master have you any idea where he might have lost the key their teacher replies of course I lost it in the house when they explain why are we looking for it out here he answers isn't it obvious there's more light here we have lost the key to intimacy with God the experience of God's loving presence Keating concludes without that experience nothing else quite work with it almost anything work
how easy is it to forget but even in life's ups and downs God remains the key to our deepest longings but we were ready to stop looking at all the wrong places. Is there ready to show us true rest and Matthew 11 Jesus prays at the father for revealing his ways not to the wise and learn it but to the little children then he invites all you who are weary and burdened to come to him for rest like little children we can find true Wrath of we learn the ways of our teacher who is gentle and humble in heart God is there eager to welcome us home
today's our daily bread devotional scripture reading is from Matthew chapter 11 verses 25 through 29
at that time Jesus said I praise you father Lord of Heaven and Earth because you have hidden these things from the wise and learn it and revealed them to Little Children he has asked father for this is what you were pleased to do all things have been committed to me by my father no one knows the son except the father and no one knows the father except the son and those to whom the son chooses to reveal him come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls
loving God how easily we can be drawn to seek satisfaction and whatever looks brightest or wherever most people seem to be flocking help us to instead look deeper and turned to you to find true rest thank you Lord It's in Jesus name we pray amen
